This heart shaped felt coin purse DIY is the perfect gift for your beloved on Valentine’s Day!
Hi everybody! It’s Ashlee from My So Called Crafty Life, and today I am here to share a fun Valentine themed project with you guys!
I am going to show you how to make a personalized heart shaped felt coin purse. It’s really easy and fun! Check out the how-to:
Here’s What You Need:
- Felt (One sheet of printed and sheet of white)
- Embroidery Floss
- Hand Sewing Needles
- Sewing Machine and Thread
- Pinking Shears
- Pattern (see below)
First you need to cut out your pattern.
Cut out one solid heart from your printed felt and then one piece each of the top and bottom front heart in your printed felt.
Draw in the heart on your white felt for your patch. It is easier to embroider the letter before you cut out the piece.
Hand stitch over the letter you drew with your embroidery floss using a simple backstitch method.
Once your initial is stitched cut out the heart patch of your white felt.
Center the white letter heart patch onto the back heart piece of felt and top stitch around the white heart patch.
Now you are ready to stitch your zipper in.
Lay the top heart front piece on top of the top of your zipper tape. Pin.
Then lay your heart bottom piece onto the other side of the zipper tape on top pinning it to the tape. Now you are ready to stitch.
Using a zipper foot, stitch down the right side a little close to the edge of the zipper teeth. When you get to the zipper pull, lift up your presser foot with the needle down into the fabric and slide the zipper pull past the foot.
Then put the foot back down and continue stitching.
When you get to the bottom of the zipper pivot the fabric and stitch and backstitch across the bottom.
Then, stitch up the other side of the zipper, moving the zipper pull when you get to it like you did on the opposite side.
Now you should have the zipper stitched.
Next, take the back heart and the front heart with zipper and lay them together with the wrong sides touching.
Top stitch all the way around the hearts about a half inch from the edge.
To finish off, trim around the edge with your pinking shears.
I love my new coin purse!
This is a project you can make in under an hour and costs very little to make.
I made mine to be very simple, but you could easily embellish the little purse with some extra embroidery. This little pouch is a great size to pop in your pocket or tuck in a purse.
I made this one for me, but I think it would be a fantastic gift for someone special this Valentine’s Day. I hope you’ll give it a try! I
’ll be back next week with more crafty fun!
