When I was a little girl I got one fancy dress every year, usually around this time. Whenever it was time to go to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner I would be giddy with the excitement of putting on the lovely frock, strapping on my patent leather Mary Janes, and if I was really lucky, my mother would even braid my hair!
I don’t think I have ever grown out of the allure of attending a holiday affair.
