Would you like to know why it is so difficult to remember to be mindful? Because life is simply crazy.
I mean even your phone is always nagging you to message a friend, be on time for an appointment, and is constantly buzzing whenever you get a new email. Sometimes I just want to throw my phone away and hide in bed!
But I have a unique way in which I use my phone to alleviate some of the chaos and help me remember to be mindful.
When it comes to being mindful the issue for me is to remember to pause during the most difficult times in my day. So I came up with an idea that is very helpful and that you may find useful. I decided that the craziest part of my day is usually around 5:00 pm, just before dinner. I always have my kids clamoring for my attention while I am trying to cook them a meal, and of course they are all tired and ornery from being in school all day.
So I set an alarm on my phone during the busiest time of day to remind me to “be mindful“. When I hear my phone chirp I pause, take a couple of deep breaths, and bring myself back into the present.
It might seem counter intuitive to use a phone, which is so often the source of chaos, to be the very thing that can remind you to live in the moment, but it seems to work for me. So why not give it a try and see if this trick helps you become more mindful.
