Though this month has connotations of the changing of the season from summer to autumn, school starting, and getting back on a “normal” schedule, I have found September to be full of chaos, commotion, and conflict.
September is full of changes. Changes in schedule, sleeping habits, weather, routine, and I have found my kids seem to act out more in September as a way to bring attention to their stress.
It is so easy to always be looking ahead to when things will calm down. Or lose myself in thoughts of calmer times. Or simply ignore the disorder around me as I surf the web. But this year, I want to try and change things up. This September I want to try and learn how to be more mindful of each and every moment.
Mindfulness is essentially the act of being present in the moment. I happen to have a terrible habit of living in my imagination, which can be a lot of fun, but also keeps me from fully living my life as it happens. So this month I am setting a goal to try and be more mindful of my thoughts and really try to connect with my existence as it happens.
For those of you who want to join me in my challenge, I will be posting 30 ways to be mindful, one for each day of the month. If you are already a mindful person then you can simply enjoy being reminded of what you are already doing right. For those who are like me and need to learn how to be more mindful, these posts will give you a plethora of tricks and tips to become more cognizant in your day to day life.
