When it comes to decorating for the holidays, I am a big believer in creating a big look using little time.
I know there are plenty of women who can spend hours creating a perfect holiday display, and sometimes that woman is me. But most of the time I want to have a festive display that comes together fairly quickly.
I happen to have quite a few vintage craft books, and one of the things I find inspiring is how easy each project is. They might be the most glamorous or professional looking items, but each one celebrates the joy inherent in the process of creation, which is really the best part of making something.
I came up with this ridiculously simple way to decorate a mason jar or other container for the 4th of July by wrapping twine around an American flag. The best part is, when it comes time to take down your display, you can just cut the twine and use the jar again for something else!
For those of you outside of the United States, just substitute with your own flag.
