If you have never worn a bright color on your lips but really want to experiment with this vintage style, I highly recommend Cargo Essential Lip Gloss as the perfect way to transition into glamour!
For this post I am working with ShopAtHome.com, an online coupon and Cash Back site that partners with thousands of online retailers and more than 60 million members to deliver savings to you! How cool is that?
When I first started my transformation into The Glamorous Housewife, I decided it would be easiest to start with my appearance.
At the time, about six years ago, I had just lost about 25-30 pounds and was very interested in getting back into a vintage groove. I always adored the fashion and beauty of the 1940s-1960s and I wanted to emulate those styles.
Because my background is in costume design, finding the right fashion wasn’t a problem. But learning how to do my makeup, that was an entirely different story. I hadn’t bothered to wear much makeup and to be totally honest, it was really difficult for me to find the courage to wear color on my lips! I had a bit of an insecurity about my mouth because lush, full lips have been in style for decades, and I was blessed with I like to call “chicken lips” ie: very thin lips. Because I didn’t like them very much, I didn’t want to draw attention to them. But on the other hand, I adored the makeup of the 1940s and 1950s with their bold lips.
I was in a quandary!
And that is when I discovered the magic of lip gloss.
Because lip gloss is sheer it was the perfect way for me to transition into wearing a brighter lip! It didn’t seem as extreme as lipstick and I liked the way it made my lips look a bit bigger because of the shine.
Now I adore wearing bright lipstick in an assortment of shades and it is all due to starting with a glamorous lip gloss like this one from Cargo Cosmetics. Though the colors look bright in the tube, when they are applied to your lips you get the perfect hint of color! For those of you who are just starting to try a more glamorous or vintage look, then I highly recommend beginning with the Cargo Essential Lip Gloss. I am wearing “Prague” which is described as a deep cranberry. I find it to be more of a purple-berry shade of red then the bright red that is on my screen, but it is still a gorgeous color. And the good news is it is being sold at 50% off for today (Wednesday, March 18th)!
For those of you who have already discovered the power of bright lip color, might I suggest dabbing a bit of the Cargo Essential Lip Gloss onto the center of your lips. This gives your pucker the illusion of being fuller and more glamorous. And that is a look that will never go out of style.
