Want to look cute and still be warm during these cold winter months? Here are a few ideas on how to dress classically during the winter.
I have been getting a lot of requests on how to dress classically in winter. The problem is, I am a southern California girl. The high today is 72 degrees and I am wearing a pair of capris and a sweater! This doesn’t really translate to the rest of the world.
To be perfectly honest with you, I loathe the cold. My husband is taking the boys snowboarding because I refuse to go to with them. I literally have nothing to wear and don’t really love stomping around in the snow.
So even though winter clothing is decidedly not my forte, I thought I would attempt to put together a few winter outfits that rely heavily on layering. Not sure how practical they are, but for those of you in the freezing Midwest, you might get a good chuckle out of what this Cali-girl thinks is appropriate for winter clothing.
Classic Winter Outfit #1
Start with a pretty sweater.
Next, layer with a long sleeved shirt.
If you really want to up the warmth factor, throw on a cozy cardigan.
Add a simple skirt in a gorgeous shade of wine.
Once you add tights the skirt is much more practical for winter.
Slide on a sturdy pair of heels and then throw a large, long jacket over the whole thing.
This outfit is perfect for when you are not going outside for long lengths of time and want to look classically gorgeous.

Who says you can’t wear a summer cotton dress in winter? All you need to do is layer, layer, layer!
This turtleneck long sleeved tee shirt instantly creates layers and warmth.
Throw on this cropped cardigan for a pop of color.
Embellish with a vintage pin.
Don’t forget to wear tights! They are key to keeping a classic look in winter. And they are just as warm as jeans, if not warmer!
These fuzzy boots by Miss L. Fire are every vintage gal’s dream winter shoe.
Classic Winter Outfit #3
I adore the woodland print on this simple housedress.
Once again, layer with a long sleeved tee shirt.
Then throw on a cardigan!
The ubiquitous tights……
and finally a sassy pair of boots! These are perfect when you actually have to trudge through snow because the streets haven’t been shoveled.
Classic Winter Outfit #4
Need to glam things up a bit? Try this leopard print peacoat. I think this would be perfect with a pair of elbow length leather gloves.
Under the jacket you can wear this pale pink sweater.
Then add a wide leg pair of pants.
End with a pair of lovely flats. Need more warmth? You could always add a pair of tights!
I couldn’t resist adding this purse to the outfit because it ties together the whole ensemble.
