The holiday season has made its way around again, as fast as it may seem. Last year I shared a few ideas for decorating your home for Christmas with a vintage touch. This year, I want to kick it up a notch and bring some more glamor to the Christmas season.
Putting together a sophisticated look for your Christmas decor may seem a bit difficult initially. There is an overwhelming abundance of decorations and colors available in almost every store. October is barely out the door before Christmas comes sweeping in, now-a-days.
One of the best ways to keep your seasonal decor refined, is to stick to a color scheme. It sounds easy enough, but with all of the pretty baubles and knick knacks, it may be hard to stay on track. Decide on your colors and do your best to stick to them. You may be thinking plenty of reds and greens, but there are so many possibilities: red and black, silver and red, blue and silver; or combine unexpected colors. Mint green is certainly not a traditional Christmas color, but it looks absolutely stunning paired with white in the above photo.
Metallic finishes are classy, alluring, and a perfect choice for the season. The metallics along with the monochrome color scheme in this room create a modern, yet festive, atmosphere. It’s glamorous while still scaled back.
Along with metallics, glitter and sequin certainly have their place in the holidays. While store bought items are a-plenty, you can also work some DIY magic and create inexpensive trimmings of your own with glitter and glue.
If you’d prefer to keep your decorations minimal, and partake in the Christmas spirit in a smaller way, focus on textiles. Pillows and blankets in supple textures like faux fur, and soft rugs are a great addition. While this room is clearly decorated for Christmas (the tree is a bit of a giveaway), it’s subtle and could be easily transitioned to winter decor. Perfect for those who aren’t too keen on packing up boxes of tiny Santas and reindeer at the end of December.
This marble fireplace is gorgeous in and of itself, but the soft white stockings, and simple mantle decor gives it the perfect look. The wrapped gifts arranged in the fireplace are an adorable idea, as well!
Use decoration like garland to highlight the architecture of your home. In the photo above the garland highlights this beautiful doorway, giving it an even more grand appearance. Hang garland from staircases, banisters, and entryways to give your rooms a merry and regal look.
Here’s to a glamorous Christmas!
