The Classic Modern woman is someone who loves classic style with a modern twist. She loves to read fashion magazines but isn’t going to jump on the bandwagon just because Vogue tells her to; she knows what works for her. Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Palermo, and Kate Middleton all fall into the classic modern category. Sometimes the clothing is a classic cut in a modern fabric. Other times the clothing is modern in style but worn in such a way that it almost looks timeless.
Notice the dress above. It is timeless in cut but the fabric is more modern in pattern. Kate is wearing simple jewelry that doesn’t compete with the bright pattern, and her nude clutch keeps everything grounded. Classy, modern, and one could argue- timeless in design. This is the epitome of the classic modern woman.

An argument could be made that this is really more of a classic simple outfit, and I would agree except the pattern mix of the stripes and the leopard print with the addition of those structured shoes makes me lean more into the modern category.
I end with this amazing outfit. If you squint your eyes the silhouette is decided retro, but when you focus on the subtle details you will see this falls decidedly into the modern category. First of all that leather and fabric peplum blouse is the perfect combination of a classic shape refigured with a modern twist. Then you have the chunky jewelry, brightly painted yellow nails, and those shoes! Taken together you get a dazzling display of classic modern at its finest.
Here are more examples of items that I think can fall into the classic modern category:
