These orchid themed homemade Valentine decorations were fun to make and I think they add a bright and delightful touch to the whole room!
A few weeks ago I decided my kitchen nook needed updating, so I got rid of the junk that had accumulated there, moved around a few shelves, and then bought a dozen orchids of various sizes and colors. I thought it ended up looking quite lovely, so I used the orchids as inspiration for my Valentine’s Day decorations.
Here is a shot of the orchids. I got them all at Trader Joes, my favorite grocery store. The total for all of the flowers was about $100. Not inexpensive, but they last at least a month or two and they really brighten up the place.
To the right of the shelves is the window. I made paper orchids and strung them along the top of the curtains. I can’t have anything hanging down too low or my two year old daughter will destroy them!
Here is a closer look at the flowers. I decided to stick with a pink and purple color scheme, with touches of yellow and chartreuse. I used this tutorial to figure out how to make the flowers. It was very easy, but mildly time consuming. I just watched tv while I cut and glued the flowers together; I am a big fan of multitasking.
Directly across from the orchids is an opening from the kitchen nook into our family room. I made these delightful orchid covered “L.O.V.E.” letters, which you can see in this movie tutorial.
Above the letters I hung tissue paper puff balls in various shades of purple. I made these using this tutorial. They are seriously the easiest decorations to make yourself.
I am pleased with the way these homemade Valentine decorations turned out. I like the idea of decorating using flowers, and the best part is, because nothing about this screams “Valentine’s Day”, I can leave it up a bit longer than I would have if it was full of hearts and lace.
