Oh the glorious 1950′s! Was there ever a more enchanting period of time? You all know I adore the 1950′s, so I have been particularly excited about 1950′s week. I thought I would share with you some of my most beloved inspirational photos from the 1950′s to try explain through pictures why I love the 50′s so much. All pictures are from My Vintage Vogue, the classiest place on the internet.
If this doesn’t encompass everything that is wonderful about this decade, I don’t know what will. It has everything- the ball gown, the gloves, the pale skin, perfect hair, and red lips! And don’t forget about the sparkling jewelry. Stunning.
This rose dress is to die for. Timeless and elegant.
Of course we all know the 1950′s can be defined by two silhouettes, the wide circle skirt and the pencil skirt. Personally I like them both.
Even the housewives were glamorous! Aren’t those outfits perfect? Of course the models are as skinny as rails, but imagine the same outfits with an extra 10, 20, even 30 pounds. I believe they would still be as beautiful as they are now because those garments are flattering on almost everyone!
I swear this could be a modern set of outfits. The only difference I can see is the crotch area would probably have a zipper if it were made in 2013, but other than that each item is completely classic and stylish.
Notice this is what they are suggesting you travel in- a lovely and elegant suit with a gorgeous handbag. I so miss the days when people dressed up to travel. I have to admit, I loathe taking off my shoes at the airport and consider it to be my least favorite thing about travel.
For my 1950′s outfit, I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lottie Dress in 5th Ave. floral. (here)
Isn’t it stunning? I went to a charity event last night with a few of my friends, so I figured this would be the perfect time to break out a Trashy Diva dress. The shoes are old Betsy Johnson.
The event was held in a private home that was built in the 1930′s located right on the beach. The views were out of control amazing.
When it comes to modern 1950′s inspired fashion, fortunately it is fairly easy to find. Because the shapes of the 50′s are now considered to be classic, you can find almost anything you are looking for. I leave you with a look-book of some of my favorite mid-century modernesque garments.
