When I started The Glamorous Housewife I intended on documenting my transformation from a frumpy wife and mother into a classic and inspiring woman. It never crossed my mind that I would be blessed with new friends, encouraging readers, and a whole new outlook on life. You ladies inspire me every single day. I read all of your comments and some of your advice is priceless. I am a better person for having this blog and I thank you all. But just as you have inspired me, I hope I have inspired you. I decided to do a little post on one of my favorite types of outfits: the skirt and the top. I consider this to be one of my three basic uniforms (the other two being pants and tops and the last being dresses). Though it isn’t vintage, I believe it is the easiest and most comfortable way to look glamorous and comfortable at the same time. I know many of you don’t wear tee shirts, but I also know that plenty of you are starting out on your glamorous transformation and need a way to incorporate items you already own with new garments that will stand the test of time. I think skirts are the best way to achieve this. I have a plentiful collection of skirts and on most days I will wear them with my compilation of graphic tee shirts. I think this look is chic, convenient, and classy. You can see how I put together this look here, here, and here. Here are a few of my favorite pairings:
Purple horse tee shirt (here) with green striped a-line skirt (here)
Red and white blouse (here) with tulip wrap skirt (here)
Bike ride tee shirt (here) with green striped skirt (here)
1950s inspired top (here) with black and white skirt (here) *Don’t have tee shirts but you have a lot of tank tops? They work just as well with skirts.
Cutie Patooty top (here) with mushroom skirt (here)
Put a bow on it tee shirt (here) with blooming rose skirt (here)
Most people have plain tee shirts, and of course they look great with skirts. I have a set of six black 3/4 sleeve with a boat neck tee shirts that I love and wear often. Why six? Because black fades fairly quickly and I just love this particular shirt. Things sell out so quickly so when I find a shape that is really flattering on me and not too expensive, I buy in bulk! Seriously!
So for those of you just starting out on your journey to glamour, how have you changed your wardrobe? Are skirts part of your journey?
