Here in Southern California, we have a weather pattern called “June Gloom”. Basically it means that if you live near the ocean, you get fog until around 1 PM and then you might see some sun. Maybe. This is my least favorite weather because I so long for the sun. A few weeks ago we had an unusual period of warmth and in that time I got our garden and porch cleaned up and organized for summer. Of course we haven’t seen the sun since, but at least when she decides to grace us with her presence, my home will be ready. Here are some of the before pictures I took:
As you can see, even with the fog we still play outside quite often. But we had no real way to contain all of our outdoor toys. We tried putting them in those ugly Home Depot bins, but that doesn’t look much better then the toys being all over the place. So I went to Home Goods and found a beautiful cabinet and it ended up being the perfect way to store all of our crazy toys. I also finally got around to adding some potted plants to the set of shelves you can see to the left of the front door with the half dead fern. I moved the vintage birdcage to a different area of the yard because it was just taking up space, and then had the kids move all the scooters and skateboards down to the garage where they belong.
It is amazing at what a difference it made to add that cabinet. All of the kid’s outdoor chalk, balls, cars, trucks, and water/digging toys fit in it and I adore the way it looks. So much better than the Home Depot bins! Now I just need my beloved sun to come out for the summer.
