According to this blog, Jane Birkin only occasionally wore her eponymous Hermes bag because she much preferred to tote a large basket around! Isn’t that so chic? I too have been a big fan of basket purses for quite some time and have collected about half a dozen of them. I’ve been trolling the internet for a new one and thought I would share with you some of my finds, including two that I purchased.
Isn’t this wicker basket with the bamboo handle and strawberries just divine? Perfect for summer.
I always like white with flowers. This would be glamorous with a pair of jeans and a simple top so the purse really takes center stage.
Here is a hard to find wicker umbrella purse for sale on Etsy. I just saw a picture of Dita with one and it was fabulous.
Though this is a modern Kate Spade purse, I bought it because I have last season’s version and I wore it all summer, plus it is on sale!
I am a sucker for anything trompe l’oeil, especially this purse. It is so charming.
If you prefer a modern version of the basket purse then look no further. Here is a simple and classic version from Mod Cloth.
A vintage white purse with cherries on top. Is there anything more perfect in the world?
I thought this was an unusual shaped vintage purse. This would be chic with a summer dress and sandals.
Don’t you just love vintage trims? I have quite a few hats with vintage flowers, and here they are covering this glamorous basket purse. I also have a few vintage fabric flowers I wear as brooches.
As you can see, I love anything with fruit on it. This one has the entire cornucopia on it!
A raffia purse is a classic for the summer and this one has a cheery huge flower as decoration. I especially like that it is navy and white- a color I don’t find very often in purses.
And finally, here is the purse I ended up purchasing. It is a red vintage purse with poppies trailing down the side. Isn’t she pretty? I don’t own a red purse and have been looking for one for such a long time. I guess my patience paid off because I am thrilled to end up with this beauty.
So do you have any basket purses, vintage or otherwise? Which one is your favorite?
