Last Friday I decided to throw a picnic inspired dinner party for a few of my friends.
As I mentioned here, I am on a new diet and part of the diet is having one cheat day a week. I look forward to my cheat day all week long and therefore I decided I wanted to cook all of my favorite foods for dinner.
I realized after I made the menu that it sounded like a typical southern picnic so I decided to keep that as the theme, only with my special Glamorous Housewife touches.
Normally when one thinks of picnic they would imagine the red and white checkered tablecloth. But I wanted to do something slightly different.
I kept the red and white color but went with polka dots instead of checked which I turned into a table runner and then highlighted it using a coordinating floral pattern on either side.
To create the runners I just split the fabric in half lengthwise and then turned under the edges and ironed them flat with stitch witch. I have used this trick before and it works like a charm.
The napkins were created using a third fabric which I cut to size (21″by 21″) and then pulled the threads from each side to give it a little fringe.
You can see the floral fabric in this photo. Isn’t it gorgeous!
You might remember the navy blue chargers from this dinner. They were very inexpensive chargers that I spray painted navy. I think I will change them to a new color for my next dinner party.
Did you notice the little mason jars with straws ?Aren’t they just the cutest?
I bought them ages ago and haven’t had a chance to use them yet. I made a huge pitcher of pineapple vodka and limeade with fresh mint cocktail and we all drank them out of the jars. Even the men! The plates are from Ikea and the silverware is from Anthropologie.
Of course you remember the flowers from last week’s post, right?
Notice I made the arrangements on Wednesday and they were still perfect on Friday. Creating your floral arrangements before your parties is a great way to save time and create less stress on the day of your event.
Though I don’t usually use red in my home, I think it looked so pretty with the turquoise built-in. I mean who doesn’t love that color combo?
As for the table runners and napkins, I can use them again for The 4th Of July!
