Have you ladies ever seen the Jonathan Adler Barbie Dream House? A few years ago Jonathan was asked to design the interior of a life-sized Barbie dream house and here is what he came up with:
Here is a sketch he did of the bedroom. I love it, but I think I would have gone with a more bubblegum pink, not this fuchsia.
Here is how the bedroom turned out. Personally I think it is way too bordello for Barbie. I mean Barbie has glamour, but she also knows there is fine line between fabulous and cheep drag queen. I feel like this is way over on drag queen lane.
I love the symmetry of the room and the Barbie Doll print on the chairs, but again, it is a lot of look. Of course that is the look Jonathan is going for, but it just seems like too much.
Ok, this room is a lot of fun. I mean that fireplace mantle display made out of Barbie Dolls is pretty cool. And I adore the poodles and silver pillows. My question is, does Barbie really live here? Maybe I am taking this whole thing a little too literally.
I leave you with the backs of those funky chairs seen in picture number four. Do not love the corset backing with the tulle foof coming out the back. But I do love the huge Barbie painting that looks like a faux Warhol.
To see the entire house you can check out this video here.
I can see that Adler wanted to go super campy and cartoonish with this home. It is a lot of fun and Adler does have a motto of happy living. But I would have gone a totally different way. The Barbie I think of is the woman you see in the first photo, not the Paris Hiltonesque Barbie that Jonathan designed for. What do you ladies think, does it represent the Barbie that you have in your imagination or is it too gaudy?
