I spent all weekend putting up my vintage inspired Hanukkah decorations and I have been dying to show you dolls!
We are a blended family that only celebrates Jewish occasions at home, but both my husband and I were raised celebrating Christmas. We don’t put up a tree, which kills me, but I still go all out on the Hanukkah decor. This year’s theme is “by the sea”, which makes perfect sense considering we live a few blocks from the beach. The room is already decorated in various shades of sea glass, so I thought the colors of the ocean would work perfectly for both the room and Hanukkah. You might be wondering what mermaids and Hanukkah have to do with each other. The answer would be, nothing. I just thought it was a pretty theme and I could use all of the shells I have collected through the years.
Vintage Inspired Hanukkah Decorations
Here is a panorama of what the whole room looks like from end to end.
Starting on the left, you can see I decorated the windows and the bookcases.
I had most of the items you see either around the house as object de art or as old Hanukkah decorations from previous years.
I kept the bookshelves very simple to contrast the glitter fest on either side. The little jars lined up on the shelf were purchased at Anthropologie on sale a few years back. They are numbered 1-8 and I put little treats inside for the kids. It is kind of like a Jewish advent calender.
I hung two swags of shell garland along the mantle. I have to keep the space on top clear because there is a tv above the fireplace and the kids use it quite often. The problem is, if there are decorations in front of the doors then they cant be opened.
On the right we have one of our two menorahs.
Here are the other window’s decorations. The peacock menorah is by Jonathan Adler and I got it last year. Isn’t she pretty?
And that is how I decorate for Hanukkah! If you would like to see last year’s decorations you can click here.
