A few months ago I posted some tips on getting fit that I use in my daily life. I thought I would an update on getting healthy and add a few more tricks I have found to loose weight glamorously.
First off I now do cardio six days a week. Yes, you read that correctly- I really try and go for a brisk walk/jog six times a week. I hate working out, and I hate cardio. I hate sweating, I hate running, I hate putting on my exercise clothing, I hate being out of breath, and I hate pretty much everything there is about working out. But I LOVE how I look, I enjoy getting out in the sunshine and for all of my complaining about working out, it really clears my head and I find the days I don’t get in any exercise I am much more ornery and quick to temper.
I put my baby in a jogging stroller and we leave the house at the same time as my two older boys leave for school. I head down to the Strand- a long walking path along the ocean and that is where I do my cardio. I usually walk quickly for a few blocks until my heart rate is up, then I jog until I get tired, then I keep walking, then a jog, sometimes a sprint, and so on until I loop around and end up back home. I end up being out for about 30 minutes each day.
I might hate cardio, but one thing I really enjoy is weight training! I know, it seems so masculine, but I have found only doing walking/running doesn’t help me loose weight or look better. But when I weight train my muscles take on definition, my body leans out, and my waist gets smaller.
I have a dedicated space in my garage where I work out, but you could use a corner of your bedroom or tv room to keep your weights. They aren’t too expensive and they last forever.
Right now I do this routine 3 times a week and then work on my abs the other 3 days a week. I have one of those big balls and I do various exercises for my abs with them. Here is a link to many of the exercise I do on ab days.
I am not perfect and I do skip days- usually due to it being that time of month or an early morning appointment I can’t miss. I have yet to get back to my pre-baby weight, but when it comes down to it, I need to exercise and eat right for the rest of my life- so this isn’t something I can stop doing any time soon. This is a lifestyle- not a diet and not a get-think-quick scheme.
So how do you ladies stay in shape? Do any of you use weights? Do you join a gym and if so, what are your favorite things to do there? I would love to know how you all deal with staying fit.
