Bright jewel tones are very in vogue right now, so the canary diamond yellow, emerald green and sapphire blue are easily found this season. Of course there is always the ubiquitous black, grey and white. I happen to love color so I say bring it on!
These same jewel tones are also found in the shoes so if you are afraid of bold color, why not start with your feet? I happen to have a whole collection of various pairs of yellow shoes because I think yellow goes with everything. But you can always start with red or even pink.
When it comes to accessories of the 1950s they are so classic it is almost difficult not to find any! I like my 1950s with a modern twist such as the sunglasses or the felt loop hat. My new thing is to wear boutonnieres as pins, which wasn’t done in the 50s but I think can be reminiscent of the corsages worn during that time.
I adore the 1950s because it is just such a classic period. The full skirts that became popular due to Dior’s new look are still worn today (though without crinolines), a simple diamond studded earring or a pearl necklace can dress up an outfit and became a trend in the 50s. And of course there is every glamorous housewife’s favorite red lipstick that with a quick swipe over her lips will create the belle of any grocery store or play group.
