Well it happened. My beautiful baby girl turned one! It was such a precious year, full of sweet baby smells, drool, diapers, baby feet, smiles, kisses, and love. When I first had Mason I was totally unprepared and every minute felt like an hour, every hour like a day, every day like a year. Time dragged its butt in the mud. But as I got used to being a mother things got better. Soon time sped up and now all I want it to do is slow down! I want to cuddle with my sweet baby forever.
But that isn’t how it works. All living things grow up, including Ella. She is now a speedy and dare-devilling toddler. I swear I am exhausted just thinking about all she does in a day. But with the end of baby cuddles comes toddler laughs and I seriously spend all day laughing with (and by with I mean at) Ella. Her new thing is to kiss herself in our full length mirror. *Sigh- so much like her mother!
As a (now) fairly experienced mother, I have learned that birthday parties are more for the adults then the kids, at least until the age of 3. So I just had a simple birthday dinner with my family.
I made a simple dinner of a chicken and peach salad and added fresh peach juice to the dressing. For the cupcakes I did a version of this, only I used a cake mix instead of baking it from scratch. Am I the only one who actually prefers the taste of a mix? So fluffy! The frosting ended up being a sort of meringue meets marshmallow fluff. It was very good and very sticky- perfect for some great photos:
As you can see, she had a wonderful time with her cupcake. Sometimes the best parties are the simplest; all you need is good food, good wine, and good family.
