It is a gorgeous day here in Manhattan Beach, and I am sipping my favorite mixed drink: gin and tonic. When I was around 9 years old, I was out to dinner with my grandparents. I asked my grandfather if I could taste his drink and he obliged. Even at my young age I could taste the perfect blend of the piney gin, the sweet and bubbly tonic, and the shot of sour from the lime. It was heaven!
I didn’t try it again until many years later when I remembered this delightful concoction. Most recently I have been sipping it in the afternoons while sitting on my swinging seat watching Ella play in the front yard.
Making a gin and tonic could not be easier. All you need are gin, tonic, limes, ice, and a glass. Fill your glass with ice and then add the juice of half of a lime. Add a shot or two of gin and then finish with the tonic. If you find a gin and tonic too sweet, try a gin rickey. The only difference is instead of tonic water, which is sweetened, you use seltzer water. Both are equally as refreshing, but I prefer the hint of sweetness from the gin and tonic.
