Today’s post is part 2 of a 2 part series. You can find part 1 here. I have spent the week discussing how to dress like a glamorous housewife- from putting on a skirt and top while running errands to elegant lounge clothing while staying at home.
As you can see from this 1950s inspired collage, I am a big believer in t-shirts. I think they have gotten a bad rap due to the oversized monstrosities from the 80s and woman’s penchants for keeping them way past their prime. I think a new, body hugging t-shirt can be, dare I say it, sexy when worn with a nice pair of fitted pants, or a casual skirt.
Speaking of new, that is something I wanted to really make clear: pajamas and sweats are not so bad when taken on their own. The problem lies in the fact we often wear them to death- our favorites tend to have holes, stains, ripped hems, etc. Maybe we don’t think we deserve to lay around the house in something nice. Maybe the wear and tear makes them more comfortable. All I know is when I buy a new pair of lounge pants they last about a year and then I toss them. By doing this my at-home clothing stays fresh and crisp- not slovenly. I do the same for my t-shirts as well.
The second thing I do is make sure my lounge clothing is only used for lounging- not sleeping. I wake up and take a shower and then change into lounge clothing- I don’t go straight from bed to chores in the same outfit. Psychologically I find it separates my sleep time from my ‘work’ time and I get more accomplished.
By keeping my lounge clothing from getting ratty, and by wearing vintage inspired outfits, I find it is very possible to look glamorous while watching tv and eating bon-bons aka- taking care of the kids, doing my chores, and blogging. As someone who has let herself go in the past, I understand how important it is to take the time for ourselves and give ourselves permission to look our best. Taking care of the kids and home is a job, and as such we should take pride in how we look and how we present ourselves to the world.
