Weeks ago I said I was going to do a feature on the supermodels of the 50’s and managed to get one written before my life got crazy. Thinks have calmed down a bit, so I thought I would take the time to write a bit about Jean Patchett.
Jean Patchett might be the most prolific model of all time. It is said that she has had more covers then any other model, and I am not surprised. I mean look at her! She reminds me a bit of Christy Turlington- not so much in looks but in elegance and timelessness.
Having signed with Ford models in its early years, her success made Ford into one of the top agencies in the business.
Jean is most often referred to with photographer Irving Penn who took the picture of her absentmindedly chewing on a string of pearls. This photograph is considered to be one of Penn’s great works.
She is also famous for the photo taken by Erwin Blumenfeld (Seen in the picture below). This photo single handedly represented an entire decade of beauty and glamour.
